the first week
It’s been a fun but exhausting first week. Ryan slept probably close to 23 hours a day it seemed like until around day 5 where he started having more wake time. On day 6 he was up for 2 consecutive hours. Nursing has been going pretty well. He seems to have the hang of it for the most part and I’m now remembering those painful first weeks of the process. Each day seems easier though. At night, he sleeps next to me and has been waking 2-3 times to eat. Last night was the best; he woke at 11:30, 3:30 and then 6:30. We are far away from any kind of schedule but it will come with time.
It is definitely different having a newborn and a toddler. Daniel has had several rough nights of waking up or having a hard time getting to sleep. Sometimes he wakes if Ryan is crying and screams out “mommy” or “daddy”. Breaks my heart, but he needs to figure out how to get back to sleep. It seems to be getting better, but I’m sure this is the first of many challenges of having two kids.
Daniel has been amazing with Ryan. He seems pretty excited and interested in Ryan. He asks about “baby” and has been giving him kisses so we can practice him being “gentile”. He hasn’t been aggressive with Ryan on purpose, but more out of general rambunctiousness.
So far I have had a much easier post partum experience as well. Yes, the hormones make me crazy at times, but physically I seem to be feeling better much quicker this time around.
