D is just a day shy of 26 months and Ry is a few days short of 4 months old.
It seems the big development of the month for D was vocabulary. I know in the past few months he has really been talking more and more, but this past month it has just exploded. He says 4-5 word sentences and repeats everything we say, so it's really time to watch what we say! He has said things that I know we have said a lot in the past but don't remember recently saying it. For example, when he is just in a diaper, we have always said "naked boy" and all of a sudden one day he came running down the hall saying it with a big smile on his face. So cute. He also seems to have some memories of recent events which is fun.
Sleep continues to be a bit of a struggle for him. Lost are the days of our fantastic 12 hour a night 3 hour naps a day boy. Plus when he wakes up he tends to cry out for one of us, which is kind of a bummer. He used to wake up all happy. He sat in his room and either played or just babbled away. Those are activities he now reserves for bedtime. He goes down around 7:30 and often doesn't go to sleep until close to 9. He just sits in there, on his bed, and plays.
He is going to daycare 3 half days a week and I think having a good time. During the summer months they have special activities with every Friday being a water play day. He loves loves to play in the water, especially in the shower. Ironically though, he is very hesitant to get in large bodies of water or even small baby pools. He went for his first swim of the season in the delta this past weekend. He went twice, each time kicking and screaming but after a few minutes hanging with Daddy he relaxed and seemed to enjoy it. But still not eager to return to the water.
As for R, he has his 4 month appointment on Friday so we will see what his stats are. He is continuing to excel in being adorable. He smiles all the time and I even got the starts of some giggles the other day when we were playing. He is a pretty happy, chill little guy. He has rolled over tummy to back a few times but nothing consistent. He seems to enjoy tummy time okay as he will just lay there for up to 30 minutes sometimes. He does get frustrated sometimes when he is trying to roll over or something and can't but he works through it.
He is still not a great sleeper but he is doing better. He goes down around 8 and wakes up between 1:30 and 4 and then again between 5 and 7 depending on when that first wake up was. The past few nights have been 3:30 or 4 which is gives me a chunk of time to sleep since I usually don't sleep much after that wake up. He has been napping well, so at least we have something going for us in the sleep department.
He likes to stand. He likes to look at me and really seems to love being talked or sang to. And surprisingly he hasn't been injured by his brother who just loves to lay on the floor next to him and kick and move and kick and move and roll and move and move and move. You get the idea. That child is non stop. He is so overcome with joy and love for his brother when he sees him he just can't help himself. He wants to touch him, shake his hand, give him a dap. I think if we would let him he would just lay on top of him and squish him. I spend much of my days with both of them directing D on how to be calm, don't touch his hand, don't touch his face, can you show me where his knee is, don't poke his eye, don't poke your eye, don't poke mommy's eye, stop kicking, watch where you are walking. It's exhausting but fun to see how much he loves him. One of D's favorite things to do is to "walk round" the blanket that R is laying on. He does laps repeating that phrase. Too cute but makes me so nervous that he's going to trip and fall on R.
